Do you want creasing in the chair-go with something smooth, do you want something more stain resistant go with an all grain/full grain semi aniline leather. Corrected and top grain leather won't last you as long as full or all grain. It will all be durable and it will be gorgeous! It's all preference-For this chair I do think everyone should purchase a full grain aka all grain leather, NOT corrected, NOT top grain leather. Whatever you choose it's an Eames Lounge-HM wouldn't put bad leather on it. I never saw a dream cow or royal hide when I was in the showroom so I cannot speak on those. I would have went with a semi aniline specifically the Stow or maybe the Prone even because I like that the semi aniline is more durable against stains/scratches and better for kids/family/animals. It will be beautiful whenever it arrives! Had I done my research a bit better on semi aniline or full aniline (though there's a layer of protectant on the edelman, it doesn't also have that extra layer of dye to protect it a smidge further). I purchased the All-grain edelman, full aniline in black, it looked great in the showroom and the chair was 4 years old (looked new). Prone is a semi aniline full grain leather just like Stow leather. This is a super smooth leather-again I don't like creasing so you know where I stand. I think HM is trying to get rid of inventory so they are pushing the MCL personally.Ģ100 series- online it says 100% foc (I tried to google that, nothing came up), but for durability HM site says 100,000 double rubs. Last time go buy a eames lounge with MCL will be August 2022. MCL-Just don't purchase it, if you need to fix your leather in the future it may be hard to match and HM might not be able to replace a portion of your leather since its discontinued. It's still durable, but because the leather has been buffed out and dyed its a bit more affordable (I don't like to use the word cheap(er)) Vincenza is a corrected leather (still semi-aniline)-which means the surface of the leather has been buffed and polished to make it smooth. Smoother leathers like Vincenza, 2100 series and MCL will crease on the chair-some people love this. Semi aniline will be more resistant to scratching, less likely to stain, and you can clean them with a wider range of cleaning products, without causing any sort of damage. This extra pigment will help ensure the leather doesn't fade as fast from sun exposure (for example) as full aniline and is honestly probably better for kids/pets etc. Now the Semi-Aniline leathers are grounded down by machine to make the surface more even then texture is applied during the tanning process. They are impeccable in quality because you aren't pigmenting them (hiding any more with dye). The most high end, premium hides are full aniline. It'll also give it a little bit of sheen. Tanneries will protect a full-aniline leather by adding a bit of a wax coating to its surface to make it resistant to water spots for example. It is susceptible to things like scuffing, staining, some fading over time. Actually all the leather offerings mentioned in the original post are semi aniline (MCL, Vincenza, Prone and Stow).įull-aniline leather like the All Grain Edelman-uses a dye that's semi translucent. The difference is that stow is semi-aniline leather and the all grain edelman is full aniline. I think they personally have the same kind of texture (pebble). Stow leather and all grain/edelman will be the most expensive.
